North Beach PAWS Summer Recap

By Carol Jamroz President, North Beach PAWS

Marmalade Skies enjoying his afternoon nap.

Summer at North Beach PAWS is always a busy time with kittens, puppies, mommas-to-be, and many adult dogs and cats either in the shelter, in foster care, or waiting to come in. Thanks to your support and the dedicated work of our volunteers, we can keep up with the care and expense of having an above-capacity shelter …

Kitten season shows no sign of abating. We seek foster families to help care for and socialize babies and ensure moms feel safe. North Beach PAWS supplies everything you need. Foster families are located throughout Grays Harbor County. You need to be able to come to the shelter when requested for veterinary wellness exams, vaccines, flea and worm treatments, and spay and neuter. Fostering is a fulfilling experience. My last bunch were spoiled and loved.

Our Garage Sale barn has undergone a re-design based on suggestions from our wonderful all-volunteer team. Shelving has been installed that allows shoppers to find treasures more easily, bright lighting makes the space cheerful, wide aisles accommodate walkers and wheelchairs, and clothing is now sorted by size on racks. These helpful changes must be working since we have experienced record sales weekends with happy shoppers! The monies earned at our Garage Sale directly benefit the many dogs and cats in our care, so they say “thank you,” too!

Our cat and dog teams are not only working with the animals in the shelter, they helped conduct five vaccination clinics throughout the county and beyond. These clinics served over 600 dogs and cats, providing basic vaccines and microchips. We couldn’t do this without our volunteer veterinary team including Dr. Stacy Steele, Dr. John Stevenson, Dr. Emily Becker, Dr. Brian Becker, Dr. James Lake, and Dr. Erin Ruminski.  Thanks to all for bringing much-needed, low-cost, basic health care to family pets.

Everything we do at North Beach PAWS is the result of ideas, work, and a passion for the animals by our all-volunteer team.  I want to share a picture taken by Lora Malakoff on an early summer morning. These are just a few of the happy crew.

With summer volunteers returning to winter homes in warmer climates, we can use more volunteers.  There is something for everyone in either our re-sale barn, cat shelter, or dog shelter.  Please visit www.northbeachpaws.org/volunteer to learn more and to fill out an application.

Our annual Dinner and Auction is fast approaching on November 2, 2024. This year we are honoring Lorna and Mike Valdez for the 22 years they dedicated to the animals of Grays Harbor County.  We will also have an update on our continuing efforts to raise funds for a new dog shelter. Join us for a fun-filled evening with music, good food, pirates, and silent and live auctions. I look forward to seeing you there!
